name plate 2

This is a hightmap-based nameplate. The background is made using Gimp's 'solid noise' filter. This is dissolved to black on the edges (to cause the shaving effect) and the text is overlaid in white so that it is above everything else. This one is nude MDF. Cut with a 1/4" ballend router bit to a depth of .30".

What is that, Frutiger? How can you not tell us what font you used?

Looks like you've got a little slop in your rig and you're dragging the bit around some.

That's an Arabic font. Why do you hate America?

If you are talking about the lines on the lower parts of the characters, then yeah, there is a bit of a problem there. It turns out the bed of the router is slightly cupped...UP...in the center. I haven't figured out a good way to fix that yet. Also, I suspect the router head droops a little as it nears the center of the gantry, but as i don't have a perfectly flat surface to measure it against i can't be sure. If, on the other hand you are speaking about the lines over the whole surface, those are because i used a rather aggressive cut spacing. I was going for a rough look.

It is the only font i have installed that didn't have a very narrow leading edge to the uppercase 'A'.
