On 28 March 2026, while I was recovering from my facial surgery, Meta decided to kill my original Instagram account. Meta would not tell me what I did wrong. And the single round of 'review by a human' did not change anything. Presumably my account was flagged in bad faith by a transphobe and then 'reviewed' by a transphobic LLM and finally 'reviewed' again by a transphobic Meta employee. Oh well.
I did not want to lose the history of my posts over the 2012 through the 2026 period. They document some (surprisingly revealing with the correct background info) important events in my life. So, here they are.
Meta did not make it easy to recreate this timeline. Only an HTML-formatted export is available from a deleted account (I think that is an accident, btw, i think the UI code there is just buggy). And the export itself is quite buggy, with posts randomly out of order and very odd formatting choices. (I smell vibe code.)
But with the judicious application of some very quickly written perl regexs and a bit of manual edting, here we are.
This is my Instgram account from Apr 18, 2012 8:30 pm through Mar 26, 2026 8:34 am. I feel there are some posts missing. But I only have the spotty data Meta can produce.

It's been nine days. Nine days ago at this time I was asleep on the table in OR # 2. Yesterday one of the amazing nurses here at Naghoi removed my stitches. I have a nose again. It's weird seeing and feeling her there. She's very different now. Still very swollen, but noticeably smaller. She breathes differently, too. It is such a unique experience.
The stitches on my eyelids also came out. I still have my cool Egyptian wing, but now without the little cross stitches. I can't wait for the swelling there to go down, and for the 'tissue memory', as the surgeon called it, to adapt to my new eye 'landscape'. I can already see the overall change, though. And it is SO cool. My eyes are so much more open. I have so much more of a canvas to paint upon.
The big scar on the back of my head. Wow. It goes from one ear, up over the back of my head, down to my other ear. I keep joking that is where they installed my new brain. It will mostly vanish in a year or so.
I cannot see my new chin. But the swelling has reduced between yesterday and today. So maybe I will catch glimpses of her soon? And, although it is all still a bit numb, I was able to shave again, which really helps my brainworms.
Transition is lots of things (this is an understatement). A big one, for me, is taking firm control of my own body - that thing that was my prison for all those years. I am no longer stuck inside what nature mistakenly gave me - the girl silently screaming to be let out. I have (violently!) overthrown my heartless testosterone ruler. My body is now truly mine. Here in Marbella, I found a talented group of the kindest people imaginable who have re-shaped my very skull to my specifications. They have erased all of the abuse impressed upon it by so many years of suffering with testosterone. I'm still coming to grips with the idea that it has actually happened. That it isn't all a dream.
The photo from just now, as I sit here in my room writing this. And that is a CT scan of my new skull. Apparently there is a fire within me! And some gnarly bits of titanium.
Feeling and looking a bit more like my true self every day. I'm gaining more of an idea of what my new face looks like. But so much of it remains hidden behind swelling and bandages. I spent a couple hours with hair today just to see if it was possible - and, yeah, it is. But it is better that I let my big scalp scar breathe, so I'm back as a bald-woman for the rest of the day. There is very little pain involved. Surprisingly little, actually. My jaw hurts near the incisions inside my mouth (just the side ones though, the one in front is fine), my temples hurt a little, I think from the chin support strap I'm wearing about 20 hours a day, and my ears hurt, also from that darned chin bra. That strap is important, though - it is there to help ensure my chin muscles reconnect correctly to my newly re-shaped jawbone. Gravity doesn't help in that one area. Surprisingly the huge incision on the back of my head doesn't hurt unless I laugh heavily or cry. Otherwise it's just back there doing its thing. And it is an interesting quirk of this place where I am today - it is full of both laughter and crying - and both of those activities hurt like hell after surgery. They are still very much part of the experience and the journey and so so worth it…but…ow. So, it is day 6 and I am doing wonderfully. My flight home is on the 27th. I am not sure I want to go.

Hi everyone. I meant to do a bigger update but that's going to have to wait. But I wanted to keep you all up to date. My surgery went exactly as planned. I'm recovering on the normal timeline and everything looks normal. There's surprisingly little pain involved. Mostly just everything feels "weird" as my head settles back down into its new shape. And lots of stuff is still quite numb as I wait for the nerves to figure themselves out. Every day I have more energy and spend less time laying in bed. Every day I have less swelling. Every day my bruises move around and shrink. Every day I can see more and more of my new face. I'm super happy with what I can see so far. This photo is of me this afternoon taking a short rest in bed before dinner.

Much traveling to get here, but I am now happily set up in Marbella and surrounded by a pile of lovely friendly people! Surgical prep stuff starts in earnest tomorrow. For now I try to figure out how to relax (how do i do that anyway? I've never really tried) at the start of my year of vacation.
One last drink at The Dray. Tomorrow I am off to Spain for my Facial Feminization Surgery. This is the last time I'll be here sporting this mug.

It is my last day at Viasat. There was a bit of rain but I had to go for one final look out from the top of the office I helped build all those years ago. It is a nice view.
Its been a long road at Inmarsat and then Viasat. And its been an even longer one when I include OnAir. Almost 20 years in the same industry.
It is time to take a break.
I was looking at old photos the other day and came across this one. I had started HRT about a week before the left photo was taken. I was in a lavatory onboard a British Airways flight to London. I had not intended to jump into HRT and immediately jump onto an airplane but...I literally could not wait. The beard went away about 1 month after this. That person on the left had no idea she could become the person on the right.
The photo on the right is last week.
When looking at these types of old photos I try to figure out what has changed. What I see is:
* huge skin changes (beyond the makeup). My skin is so much smother and has a much more uniform (and lighter) coloring. I had been doing heavy skin care for ~3 months prior to the left photograph. I'm sure the fact that i kept doing that helped, but I think the biggest change here is the Estrogen.
* reduction in wrinkles. I don't now how. But the wrinkles on my brow have decreased, and around my eyes.
* where'd the beard go?! I was coloring both my beard and my hair in that old photo.
* my cheeks are different...somehow.
* my undereyes are different. There is more padding there. (I had started using eye cream at least a year prior to the left photo.)
* my eyes overall are more open. I felt this happening early on HRT. Something just caused me to open them wider. I felt it in tired muscles and a difference in moisture for a few months before I got used to it.
* its hard to see because of the beard, but my chin and jaw are softer somehow.
* and everything is somehow just softer with more rounded edges.
* my eye color lightened up, particularly on the outer edge. i tried to take good photos of this effect, because I had read about it, but i didn't do a very good job.
Anyway, I think its all just remarkable.
It is not hyperbole to say that HRT saved my life. HRT by itself was not enough. But I would not be here today had I not started HRT in 2024. Not all Trans-people need HRT. But those who need it...really do NEED it.
HRT is life-saving treatment. You can see its biggest effect in my eyes - inner peace and hope.
May 2024 (~1 week on HRT) -> Feb 2026 (~ 2 years on HRT)
More documenting of my "second face" before the installation of my "third face". I don't have enough documentation of my "first face" (though "he's" painful for me to look at now. too unhappy.). Trying to not make that same mistake this time.
Walking to lunch on Westlake. Seattle, Feb 2026.
This is me today. Making a sort of silly but determined face. I have literally never been happier with how I look than I am today. My transition includes a whole lot of things, but the physical changes that have already happened to my face are, to me, nothing short of miraculous. On good days (like today) I find it hard to walk by mirrors and not stop and look. To stop and wonder: how did this happen? How can I look like this? I spent so many agonizing years looking so incredibly wrong. So many years helplessly trapped behind a face that wasn't actually me. I am just amazed (on the good days). On the good days I can spend minutes standing at a mirror making funny faces. Just seeing what my not-all-that-horrible-anymore face can do. Those are amazing feelings.
But there are also bad days. And those days suck. They sort of suck worse now because I have experienced what not hating how I look feels like. I have experienced glimpses of a face that I can identify as actually being me. On those days I still avoid mirrors. I try not to actively scowl at myself like I used to...because I know it will probably get better. But it still sucks. It hurts. Bad.
Thirty days from today, on March 17, I am having Facial Feminization Surgery. 30 days from today I will have...a very different face. A face with most of the male attributes shaved off. A face with more curves and fewer sharp edges. A different forehead, different eyelids, a different nose, different lips, a different chin. And my neck is changing a little too, with a smaller adam's apple.
I cannot freaking wait. 30 days to go. THIRTY DAYS.
This is me today. In thirty days I will look...a whole lot worse (hehe). But in the weeks and months that follow, as my surgical trauma heals, I'll be much much closer to a face that I can truly comfortably live with. The face I've dreamed of my whole entire life.
I can't wait.
Very nice on Lake Union today.

2025 was a doozy! I grew so much as an actual whole person.
Happy Solstice to everyone. This is what is called a Solargram. It is a photo taken over a 6 month period. It shows the path of the sun as seen from the balconny on the south-side of my house in Seattle. On top of the image is July 25. On the bottom is today. The camera is a safe deposit box with a pinhole to allow in the light. The photo is taken on black and white Ilford photo paper. The result ends up being coloful, but the colors aren't really related to the subjects in the image. I'm not sure anyone knows where the colors come from. The spots are water damage, though. Anyway, I've taken a few of these over the years. This is the first one where i've had my shit together well enough to cover almost the whole 6 month cycle.
As we come up to the end of the year I have started looking back over how my year has been. These three photos are all quite recent...but are pretty damned huge steps in my life. The first photo...that's the last photo of Audin ever taken. It was taken at 11:33 on 14 October at work. I am pleased the last photo of me as that person shows a bit of a smile. When I took it I suspected it was close to the last one. My 'Audin act' was happy about that. He was happy to finally retire. Hopeful about my future.
The second photo directly follows the last one. Its not the first photo of Kiera, by a long way, but it is the first photo of her (me!) having completely taken control of my life. It was taken at 23:46 on 14 Oct, following a night of trivia with friends.
The third photo is of me about to go to Thanksgiving dinner. It was taken at 11:19 on 27 Nov. This is who I am today. I've never known so much happiness.
Today marks one month since I last had to act as the 'guy' shown on my old ID badge. In late 2023 that 'guy' - the person who I thought I had to be - was extremely depressed. I don't know the exact date that photo was taken - but it was probably November - which means he was only about a month away from the injury that pushed him over the cliff. In the two-ish years since I've...well I've become someone else. And it has been the most amazing journey.
This last week several things came together to make this new ID badge happen. All that same stuff also got me a new drivers license! Sadly I don't have that photo yet. A couple weeks...

I live two lives at the moment. So I need little reminders to check who I am at any given moment. This one helps remind me who is supposed to be on camera in any given situation... I have mixed up my zoom accounts a few times, though not yet with the camera on! It is surprisingly complicated though. Today I'm at work in boy-mode but only above the waist. Down below there's a skirt. So I have to remember not to walk in and out of frame.

Last day of my summer holiday. I scheduled three weeks off with mostly the idea of just not working. But in the lead up I realized I could use the time to move my transition along. So for three weeks now I have been in "Kiera mode" almost all the time. And it's been awesome. And terrifying. And amazing. And now I don't want to go back. So. Here I am. Sitting at my favorite pub. As I am today. 1 year and about 3 months since starting HRT and my transition. Progress! Finally. I will not stagnate ever again.

I realized a remarkable thing this last week. There are now 21 people in my life who have met and only know the real me. The first chart shows the number of people, other than myself, who know who I really am. That number was zero prior to 2024. The second chart shows my whole life. It demonstrates that I did not understand who I was consistently for the first 48 years of my life. At times I knew who and what I was. But at other times I repressed it so well I did not. The second chart also shows how remarkably different my life became after my acceptance in early 2024. The singular most important aspect of my whole being was a secret from the whole world for 48 years. I've spent the last three weeks (I've been on holiday) almost entirely in Kiera-mode. I have never experienced more hope in my entire life. This has been the most fulfilling three weeks of my life. It has also been terrifying. And I am dreading next week when I have to be him again for work purposes. But I can finally foresee a time when I can fully retire my "fake guy persona" - the defense mechanism that I built to keep me safe but instead has entrapped and harmed me for so many years - and that gives me the will to keep progressing. I am filled with hope, where in just 2023 there literally was none.
I try to do voice practice when I'm driving. This usually just involves talking to myself. The vowel glides turn out to need more concentration. I also find myself admiring my nails while driving if the lighting is good.

My make-entryway-less-boring project is done. I cleaned up the walls, replaced all the moulding, and repainted everything. I haven't figured out what to do about the little area that used to house a bench. I think it is interesting how although the walls now reflect less light, the space feels much much brighter.
Weekend trip. Yay.

I found a Kodak No. 2A Brownie Model B camera at the ReStore a few months ago. After futzing around to make the wide film fit in a developing tank this one image came out.
This was shot on Verichrome Pan 116 film. That film was available until 1984. The camera model was produced from 1907 through 1933. I'm guessing the photo is from the 1940s?

In my library which is also my office is a closet. Within this closet is an old ikea dresser that contains large amounts of crap (electrical components, computer bits, wire, tools, connectors, etc). It was full, so the crap was invading the rest of the library. So I built a shelf to fit next to the dresser in the same closet to increase the storage capacity and make it a little less chaotic. The shelf is made from about 2 sheets of 5x5 12mm baltic birch plywood, finished in 4 sprayed on coats of lacquer. 31" x 60" x 11".
Why are there so many of these things on my desk? It's like they self-replicate.

Today's project: better storage for the long skinny stuff.
Today's project was a new bench for the shop building. This replaces an annoying industrial table that had been in the location for the last 10 years or so. The pottery wheel will be moving (not sure where yet) to make room for some cabinets. the far end stays open as the 'desk' for the x-carve (under the pile of crap in the distance).

Sigrun, my ever faithful companion over the last 17 years, passed away last week. She had been fighting kidney and thyroid problems for some time. She was found near one of her favorite napping spots on the morning of the day I was due to return home. I missed seeing her alive by less than a day. I took this photo when I said goodbye and told her not to worry that I'd be back in 2 weeks time. She had been doing pretty well. I really thought she would be okay for those 2 weeks. I was wrong. I believe she died of heart failure as a complication of the thyroid problem. She died in her home, as would have been her wish (she hated going anywhere) and I believe there was not much pain involved. I just wish I could have been there with her. Sigrun was 17.5 years old. Goodbye, kiddo.

New lighting in the kitchen is coming along. One more led bar to build tomorrow. Then a bit of wiring to hook them into the motion sensor and figure out how to mount the power supplies for best cooling. It will end up as about 70 watts total via the indirect bars, plus the two pendants of unremembered size and two 40 watt Edison filament bulbs above the sink.

So it seems that all the errors are at the front of the drive. This is a 40gb 3.5" disk. Presumably the primary event hit at the 1.6bg point on the disk and then the stuff to the left is debris causing further damage. The disk to the right seems fine. #datarecovery #spinningdisk #makebackups

Sigrun is doing a bit better. She is eating again, though only about 1/2 or 3/4 of her prior normal amount. Sadly the key to this progress was to move the food bowl next to the bedroom sliding glass door where she is spending all her time. So her universe is shrinking again, and she only comes downstairs a few times a day now. I have deliberately tried to keep her moving about the house, but I think her joints are just too painful to keep up with that now.

They started life in the shop building but soon after that moved into my bedroom. They are still there - plugged into a little D amplifier and a tube headphone amp to 'smooth out' my laptop's audio - when I really can't sleep these pretty speakers play very loud music until I can.

Ride home. My seat is on top on the right!
Comment added by Kiera in 2026: I have always found it very weird to sit in the front of a 747. Both floors feel very weird. The nose is very sharply curved. So it is very obvious that you are sitting very far forward in the airplane. Being far forward on the lower deck is the weirdest...the cabin tapers off sooo much...it just fades off into what is very clearly THE TIP OF THE AIRPLANE. The upper deck is less weird, as there is a wall in the forst leading to the cockpit. I don't feel quite so out front. Also the top floor is really quiet. There is very little noise from the lower cabin. But it feels isolated. And the little staircase is...odd. It is a very weird airplane.
Compare this to my expeirences on A380s: A380s feel exactly like B777s. Top floor or bottom floor. It just FEELS LIKE A B777. Where the B747 is oddly curvy (it is, by far, the sexier airplane) the A380 is almost a straight tube. So I always feel like I'm just sitting on a run of the mill B777. I was sad when BA retired its 747-400s. They were obviously old...but they were cool.
I let Cheeseburger out for a little roam today.
Comment added by Kiera in 2026: This turned out to be Cheeseburgers last wander outside. He sniffed around for a minute or two and then wanted to go back inside. He passed about a month later.
I say "he passed". But it was more complicated than that. I did not belive he would survive my then-upcoming trip to europe. So on December 3, 2015 I arranged for his vet to come out to our house and end his suffering. I held him as she did it. It was the hardest thing I had ever done in my life up to that point. Feeling his life fade away in my hands. I still think it was the right thing to do. He was not enjoying life - he wanted peace. But goddess was it hard.
Finally heading back home.

This paint can lid is creepily smiling at me...

Hmm. There's more than one of me?
Comment added by Kiera in 2026: Unstated was the though "god I hope not for that other person's sake." I knew. I knew.

Carl sagan day!
Comment added by Kiera in 2026: I counted myself as generally 'happy' on this day. Thats why I took the ultra-rare selfie. I look happy, right? Right?! I'm F**ing happy! I even wore a date-relevant t-shirt!
yeah. huh. This was taken in the OnAir Seattle mens room. I remember taking the photo. And deliberately wearing that shirt. I was actually sort of happy at the time. For me then? But...god...that expression. Those eyes. Ow. He was so amazingly sad.

Comment added by Kiera in 2026: I don't remember why but I was rearranging or cleaning the garage or something. I remember the bikes all needing to go out. Supercub C100, CL70 Scrambler, CL235 Scrabler, TU250X, GT550. I still own all of those except the GT550...that I miss. It sounded SO NICE. But it was top heavy (surprisingly so - I would have real problems keeping it vertical now) and had bad crank seals.

The new version of my A380 network simulator now needs SIX nics. Ugh.
The SuperCub lives again.

More pallet frames.
Comment added by Kiera in 2026: I gave this frame and photo to my mom. And when she passed away it came back to me. It is in my besement storage room. I don't know what to do with it.

Cheezburger wants inside...
Comment added by Kiera in 2026:I think this is the George and Dragon.
Comment added by Kiera in 2026: This was Cheeseburger. He was an amazing little man. He just...showed up...and choose me as a human friend. A few days later his sibling (Twinky) also showed up. They were both pretty comfortable around humans (especially CB) and so I suspect someone else nearby had abandoned them. Our early history was troubled - they weren't fixed, so they peed on things. I did not understand this at the time. They were inside-outside cats for a while. But then I got tired of the peeing and pushed them back outside. They were fine for a while like that. But then they weren't. I feel bad that I didn't understand the depth of Twinky's illnes until it was too late. I tried to make up for that failure with Cheeseburger years later. I as able to give him a more comfortable final period. He just wanted a lap to sleep in. Thats all.
Comment added by Kiera in 2026:My Suzuki TU250X. The first time I owned it. My guy filter was always a bit iffy on my preference for smaller motorcycles. He was also worried a bit about the color. Now that I own that bike again I have a serious desire to paint the tank purple.
Comment added by Kiera in 2026: I drank a rather a lot in this period.

Comment added by Kiera in 2026: Sigrun in her prime. The best cat. I often wonder what she would make of me now. She always seemed to prefer men over women. But she preferred me over anyone else. Would that have survived my transiton?
