wow! is that what i think it is? where can you even get that film anymore? very exciting. i'd love to see what you end up shooting!

It's a very crude 8x10 camera. You can still get large format film, though it is expensive. I'm shooting on x-ray film which is actually very cheap ($0.42 / sheet). The first two shots from last night are in this same photo set.

i did not know you could use xray film- cool. i bet they did sell 8x10 regular film for an arm and a leg, once upon a time. i knew an artist who shot 8 x 10s, he might still... and we had some in the slide library though i do not know who shot them because we never had an 8 x 10 camera - maybe it was rented. i think 8 x 10 double exposures could be cool. how big can you print them?

8x10 is still pretty easily available, though spendy. The cheapest at Freestyle Photo is $2.40/sheet. X-ray is much cheaper but has some pretty serious flaws (it's very fragile while wet, almost impossible not to scratch it, it is orthochromatic (only sensitive to blue and green light), has emulsion on both sides (which exacerbates the scratching problem. It is also supposed to excessively contrasty, though I haven't had a problem with that. I can only print them at 8x10 because my enlarger can't hold any more than 4x5. I suppose I could print a corner of an 8x10... At the moment I just intend to contact print them.
